Caffeine heads! We have a new house coffee! The CC hoppers will be welcoming ‘Granny’s House’ from our friends-turned-lovers at Radical Roasters. From Tuesday 3rd March your CC brew will be a single-origin Colombian washed from Popayán. “This is specialty coffee at its most comforting, with notes of rich praline, stone fruit and creamy milk chocolate.”
We met with Cat a few weeks ago at the Radical café and roastery on St Marks Road in Easton, just as the team were wrapping up for the day. The place is famously ‘like your Nan’s living room’, full of warmth and nick-nacks plus the incredible smell of freshly roasted coffee. Cat made us peppermint tea in a teddy bear-shaped teapot, and we found a cosy corner of the café to talk mostly about coffee - though we ended up moving onto bulb planting as Cat topped up our tea and we drifted into chats beyond our partnership.
Radical is a great fit for Coffee Club. Firstly our appreciation for the synergy between coffee & music is matched, with Radical recommending a track for each of their roasts. Cat also fronts a band (Making Strange) and is an avid gig-goer. Safe to say, CC Live gigs at the Radical café are on the cards. We’ll be planning a launch event to celebrate, keep an eye on our socials for news of this.
Secondly, we really resonate with the way Cat runs things. We spoke about the importance of making decisions that aren’t based on generating the highest possible profit, but on what’s best for our teams, customers and communities. It all comes back to her mission to “empower as many people as possible.” People over profit, through and through.
What’s more, Radical uses a pushbike delivery service, the same as our weekly cake delivery from BOSH meaning around half of our stock will now be delivered by bike. Our coffee will also come in reusable storage tubs. Greeeen af, baby!
Finally, the DIY vibes are unmatched. We love that everything Radical does clearly has a real person behind it, especially at a time when AI art is raising its ugly head. From making zines to having their coffee bags hand-screen printed, there is so much gorgeous character radiating from everything they do.
All this and more has us absolutely buzzing to be teaming up with Radical. As a small business we feel it’s more important than ever to work with other small businesses navigating the current economic climate. We want to say a huge thank you to Extract, in particular the people we have worked closely with over the years. It’s no shade on them, it just feels like the time for change.
Let’s goooooo, Radical!
