We met Faye up at the shop & bar in Totterdown last month. The space is gorgeously bright and joyful. Walls are lined with hand-picked bottles from around the world, each numbered and sporting a hand written brown label with short descriptions. There’s a large blackboard displaying the current wine specials and options for accompanying cheese and charcuterie.
What stood out was Faye’s warmth and ability to make us feel totally comfortable in what could easily feel like a pretentious space. The funky colours, hand written labels and Faye’s down to earth nature all play a part in creating an inviting space even for a pair of wine novices.
With a background as a sommelier and experience working overseas picking, pressing and fermenting grapes alongside winemakers, her knowledge of the industry is vast. If you’re interested to learn more about wine, or equally if you just want to sip, graze and yap with a mate, Carouse is your gaff.
We were there to select some wines for the August Chow Down. First we talked through Jim’s Pizza menu and our budget. We were then offered a selection of white, rosé and red wines that would pair well with the food and suit the general vibe and season of the event.
Our selections for August:
We’ll be working with Carouse again for the September Chow Down, selections TBC!
