On a recent chilly but dry February evening, we welcomed local musicians Bram Bourbon and Anya Pailthorpe to the Airstreams for a lovely evening of folk. It took just a few simple actions to turn our little café into a teeny tiny gig venue: to make room for gig-goers, we removed the two big tables from the caravan and set out chairs and stools in a bus-like seating arrangement. We then dressed the stage with some leafy houseplants, angled the spotlights down, and stocked the Coffee Club fridges with local tinnies.
Bram kicked us off with an engaging set of emotive tracks from his latest EP, The Lies That Make Me. Having Bram’s one-year-old brother join us for the show added an extra layer of wholesomeness. We then took a short break for a playback of 'Helplessness Blues' by Fleet Foxes on vinyl. This was followed by a gorgeously cosy set from Anya, woven with smiley anecdotes and audience participation.
We hope these intimate events provide a different kind of stage for acoustic musicians, by inviting the audience to really listen and engage with their music.
